Yes — kratom is legal in Oregon for adults 21 and over. Oregon regulates kratom under its Kratom Consumer Protection Act, which took effect in July 2023. The law sets an age minimum, requires lab testing and honest labeling, and requires processors to register with the state. There is no statewide ban, and no ban is currently pending.

What does Oregon's kratom law actually require?
Oregon passed its version of the Kratom Consumer Protection Act in 2022, with the rules taking effect in July 2023. In plain terms, the law requires:
- Age 21+. Under ORS 475.398, a retailer may not sell or distribute kratom products to anyone under 21, and retailers must verify age at the point of sale.
- Lab testing. Kratom products must be tested for contaminants and alkaloid content.
- Honest labeling. Products must carry accurate labels, including alkaloid content and batch identification.
- Processor registration. Kratom processors must register with the state.
Honestly, we welcomed this law. Everything it mandates — testing every batch, labeling accurately, keeping kratom away from minors — we were already doing. A rulebook that requires the basics is good for the customer and good for the businesses doing it right.
Can you buy kratom in Oregon stores?
Yes, and Oregon is probably the easiest state in the country to find it done properly. Could Oregon's law change?
It could — kratom law is moving in a lot of states right now, in both directions. Some states have banned kratom outright; Rhode Island went the other way in 2026 and replaced its ban with regulation. In Oregon, nothing of that kind is currently on the table, and the state's approach since 2023 has been regulation rather than prohibition.
There is also movement at the federal level, and it is worth understanding precisely. In July 2026 the DEA published notices of intent to temporarily place 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) above a specified concentration into Schedule I, along with several related synthetic compounds. This is narrower than it sounds: it is aimed at concentrated and synthetic 7-OH products, not at conventional kratom leaf, and the kratom leaf itself remains unscheduled federally. We're watching this one closely and will update this page as it develops.

What we do regardless of what the law requires
Laws set the floor. Our practices don't change with the statute: every batch lab-tested, AKA GMP-qualified facility, accurate labels, conservative serving guidance, and honest answers about kratom's risks — including dependence, which we write about plainly in Is Kratom Addictive?. That was the operating standard before Oregon required any of it, and it will stay the standard.
